The Northern Kings’ very own “bash brothers” would have had runs on their minds in their opening clash of the day against the Moreton Magic. In true Northern Kings fashion, Andrew Gode and Josh Brown got them off to a flyer taking 13 off the first over. However, Glenn Batticciotto made an early breakthrough dismissing Josh Brown the next over for 4.
Andrew Gode continued to pile on the runs and finished with an impressive 78 off 56 balls while the Kings’ middle order struggled to support Gode’s fireworks through the middle overs with Palombo (0), Cooper (9) and Healy (5) all falling quickly and cheaply.
A spirited Magic bowling performance with 7 of the 9 Kings’ batters all being dismissed in single figures ensured that they were well within a chance of snatching victory if their top order got off to a good start.
The Magic started their innings steadily with Callum Stitt and Preston White opening the batting. Stitt went at a run a ball for his 7 before he was caught by Josh Brown off the bowling of Jack O’Neill. Enter the evergreen Glenn Batticciotto.
White and Batticciotto put on 26 off 18 before Preston was caught trying to up the ante, leaving Batticciotto to take control of the game. The Magic went at 6 an over for the next 5 overs ensuring that Batticciotto and Webster (31 off 27) had their eye in to mount the final run chase.
The 11th over saw the Magic take 15 off Ramgharia’s over to kick-start the momentum of their partnership. Fireworks began in the 13th over and saw Batticciotto finish his innings with 87 off 44 balls scoring his final 62 runs off 18 balls to chase down the Kings’ total in 15.3 overs. His stellar performance earned him Man of the Match.
