Game 21 of the Brisbane Premier League was a must win game for the Bayside Pirates as they took on the competition leaders, the Moreton Magic. Winning the toss were the Bayside Pirates who elected to bat.
A steady open to the innings saw Sunam Gautam score a run-a-ball 18. Andy Michael scored 20 from 29 balls, as well as captain/keeper Claye Beams hitting 19 off 14 balls. It was James McNeil scoring the bulk of the runs, stabilizing the Pirates innings with 36 runs from 38 balls. Tim Nicholson was the man to remove Andy Michael, then combining with Jed Wilson in the run out of Brandon Honeybrook, to trigger a collapse. In all, the Pirates lost 6 wickets for 13 runs, reducing them to 9-116 from their 20 overs.
Moreton Magic had their work cut out for them in their chase of 116 in a moderate start. Early wickets to Suman Gautam, Joshua Henderson and Andy Michael saw Moreton lose their magic at 3-39. The chase only got tougher, losing last weekend’s star in Glen Batticciotto for 16 from the bowling of Rowan Lutter, and it was 4-59. Wicket keeper/batsmen Matthew Schubert brought the magic back to Moreton, belting 33 runs from 11 balls, getting his side to 6-118.
The Moreton Magic won by 4 wickets with six overs and 4 balls remaining, securing a bonus point win in the chase!
